Based on the vision of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia 2030, which made it a priority to pay attention to the health and well-being of individuals, it was necessary for King Abdulaziz University to strive to provide the best preventive and curative health care services to all its students, employees, and faculty members in compliance with this ambitious vision, through a number of Among the channels located inside the university campus as following
  • First: The University Hospital: It provides distinguished medical, educational, and research services to university employees, students and all members of the local community. It is also committed to providing the best health care services to patients on a partnership basis between the patients, their family, and hospital staff.
  • This commitment is confirmed through a list of (patient rights and responsibilities) that patients can refer to when needed to clarify any of them.
  • Second: The University Dental Hospital: It contains several medical departments and supportive medical services in various dental specialties. The clinics are equipped with the latest medical technologies delivered through a high caliber dentist, specialists, technicians and administrators to ensure the provision of the best medical and educational services in the field of dentistry for university employees, students and all members of the local community.
  • Third: University Medical Services Center: It works to provide comprehensive health services that provide the highest level of care for university employees and students. It also works to provide a suitable environment for the postgraduate residency trainings from the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties and for students in the medical field. Moreover, the Medical Service Center contributes to applied research programs and delivers health awareness programs to various sectors within the university.

Fourth: Medical Research Centers:
King Abdulaziz University includes two types of research centers. The first type comprises medical research centers, which conduct research studies aimed at finding appropriate solutions to provide the best healthcare services across various medical fields and specialties, in addition to offering consultations to help build an informed and health-conscious community.

Fifth: Health Promotion Center
King Abdulaziz University (KAU) always seeks excellence and pioneering when it comes to serving its students, faculty, and society as a whole. Thus, in alignment with the Saudi 2030 Vision of health promotion and the application of the National Quality of Life 2020 program, KAU aims to create a better life for Saudi individuals through developing and launching various programs and initiatives regarding health promotion.

General Goal for the Center:
The health promotion of society in general and especially the university’s students and faculty and the development of ideal and positive health maintenance and betterment attitudes and skills.
Specific Goals for the Center:
The center has various goals under many categories. Some of these goals are to fulfill the 2030 Vision of Health Promotion and Quality of Life and to promote physical, mental, social, and preventative health. In addition, the center aims to provide volunteering and training opportunities in health promotion and active participation in international health days and events. One of the goals is also to involve the university’s faculty and students actively in health promotion and spreading awareness within society. Such goals will be accomplished through collaborating with international and local health organizations and involving the private sector in promoting health to society. This is done by holding conferences, meetups, campaigns, and workshops that aid in driving society to reach a better state of health awareness and then measuring the progress through scientific research and statistical methods.
Center Success Pillars:
The center’s success is dependent on the support from the university administration, the presence of a strategic plan and its alignment with the Saudi 2030 Vision, the presence of financial and moral support, the collaboration among all sectors within and outside of the university, and the great importance of health promotion on an international and local level.

Center Units:
Physical health promotion,This goal is achieved through the development of physical health promotion programs tackling: diabetes and its prevention, hypertension and its prevention, obesity and its prevention, drug addiction and its prevention, early diagnosis of chronic illnesses, unhealthy food habits and their avoidance, and physical activity promotion.
Mental health promotion,This goal is achieved through the development of mental health promotion programs tackling: Stress and ways of dealing with it, Anxiety and ways of dealing with it, and Depression and its prevention.
Social health promotion,This goal is achieved through the development of social health promotion programs tackling: premarital consultations, safe driving, domestic abuse, and scholarship preparation.
The Preventative Programs and Initiatives Unit
This unit takes various measures to prevent chronic and contagious illnesses. This is achieved through the development of preventative programs tackling: the early diagnosis of diabetes, hypertension, breast cancer, and colon cancer. In addition to, seasonal vaccination campaigns, Portable prevention clinics, Workplace safety awareness, and the prevention of excessive use of electronic devices.
The Health Volunteering Unit
This unit initiates various health volunteering opportunities by: launching a medical volunteering team containing both faculty and students, launching a non-medical volunteering team, delivering educational campaigns regarding health through its teams, and actively participating in international health days through its teams.
The Training Unit
This unit focuses on society learning and mastering first aid skills which is done by: Holding first aid training courses, Holding Basic Life Support training courses, and Launching health activity initiatives.
The Health Activity Initiatives Unit
This unit aims for the betterment and correction of Saudi's wrong health habits and attitudes by: Holding sports activities and competitions, launching marathons and walking initiatives, and Launching educational and awareness spreading competitions promoting healthy activity.
The Research and Studies Unit
This unit utilizes the various programs within the center to collect data and perform beneficial scientific research that tackle current issues. The main goals of the research include: Health promotion research and studies, Quality of life, University health, and representing the university by publishing the research in renowned platforms.

Examples of Center Initiatives and Efforts:

On December 23, 2024, King Abdulaziz University launched the "Health-Promoting University" program, which aims to improve the university environment and enhance the quality of life for students, faculty, and staff. On 27/5/2025, the Health Promotion Center, in collaboration with the Health Awareness Club at the College of Medicine, participated in organizing the “Itmi’n / Be Reassured” campaign. This initiative was part of the Health-Promoting University program and aimed to raise awareness of the importance of mental health and to correct common misconceptions associated with it. )Link)

On 26/6/2025, the Health Promotion Center, in collaboration with the International Maritime Training Center and the College of Maritime Studies, organized a two-day training course on First Aid in Maritime Transport. Sixth: Awareness and Education Programs in Health Colleges

The health colleges at King Abdulaziz University, in addition to providing educational, research, and healthcare services, also offer social services. Each health college has a community service unit that focuses on providing awareness and education programs, as well as health volunteer services in various fields to improve and enhance health and well-being. These include disease prevention, personal hygiene, physical exercise, and other topics related to health and well-being. These services are offered free of charge to all members of the local community, including the underprivileged, refugees, those in need, low-income individuals, and special groups. Services are provided through events held in public areas that are easily accessible to everyone or through field visits. Among them:

Community Service Unit at the College of Medicine:

It is a unit that is established in the College of Medicine and King Abdulaziz University Hospital in Jeddah in order to serve the community healthily through education, training, provision of treatment opportunities, volunteering in health fields, and partnerships with employers and associations specialized in health care. The data-bs-parent attribute makes sure that all collapsible elements under the specified parent will be closed when one of the collapsible item is shown.

To be a leader in the field of community service in dentistry at the local, regional, and global levels.

To contribute to improving oral health at the local, regional, and global levels.

Objectives:

  • To coordinate between the agencies, departments, and units within the college and the University Dental Hospital to offer community initiatives and events in the field of oral health.
  • To engage with government and private sectors to launch community initiatives and events related to oral health.
  • To instill the value of community service in the students and staff of the College of Dentistry and the University Dental Hospital.
  • To strengthen community solidarity by establishing local, regional, and global partnerships aimed at preventive, educational, and therapeutic community service.
  • To raise awareness in the community about oral health issues and ways to prevent them.
  • To empower individuals in the community to improve their oral health.

Health Awareness and Education Programs at the University

The university is committed to promoting health awareness and fostering a culture of prevention among its members through the implementation of comprehensive health awareness and education programs that address various health aspects. These programs are delivered through a collaborative framework that includes the University Health Services Center, the University Hospital, the Health Promotion Center, as well as the health colleges, through awareness campaigns, health events, educational lectures and workshops, in addition to digital platforms and institutional communication channels. These efforts also extend to serving the wider community beyond the university, by implementing awareness programs in public and open spaces that are easily accessible to all, thereby supporting public health, empowering individuals to adopt healthy lifestyles, and enhancing quality of life within both the university community and the local community.

On Wednesday, 15 January 2025, the Health Promotion Center, in collaboration with the Deanship of Student Affairs, delivered a course entitled “Nutrition and My Health,” aimed at raising awareness of the importance of healthy nutrition and its role in improving health and quality of life.
