Center for people with disabilities

The idea of establishing a body within the university that would care for female students with disabilities began with the establishment of (Al-Amal Club for the Blind) in the year 1416 AH. Consequently, it became the only body at that time concerned with serving female students with (visual disability), and the tasks of this club were limited to helping female students complete admission and registration procedures and providing volunteer female writers for them during exams. On 3/12/1422 AH, (Amal Club) was transformed into an office. People with special needs, so services expanded and developed to include people with visual and mobility disabilities. In view of the increasing number of female students and based on the principle of seeking to serve the community in all its categories and develop services Introduction to female students with disabilities: The office has been transformed into a center that seeks to improve the level of services The introduction and a comprehensive study and vision were developed. The recommendation came from His Excellency the President of the University approving its transformation into a center on 6/13/1429 AH, and the name of the center was changed based on the decision of His Excellency the University President No. (3859/Q) on 4/7/1442 AH to the Center for Persons with Disabilities. . Center vision: Leadership in providing all services to female students with disabilities, so that King Abdulaziz University becomes the university Leading service in this category. Center message: Expanding the circle of participation and integration of female students with disabilities from educational, social and cultural aspects Providing all services that enable them to complete their educational journey and become active members of the school All Areas. Center objectives: Overcoming all difficulties and obstacles facing female students with disabilities during their academic journey by providing educational aids and assistive technologies as needed. Providing an appropriate and prepared environment for female students with disabilities. Preparing female students with disabilities and preparing them psychologically and socially to help them integrate into university life and society through psychological courses and rehabilitation programs. Enabling female students with disabilities to participate in extracurricular activities available to female students within the university.

Special Needs Center

1-Several translators (Arabic/English) and sign language teachers are assigned to deaf students.

2-Special Medical Services: Students with disabilities benefit from:

*Free medical services

*A priority reception and appointments treatment of their own, so that they do not need to wait in the regular queues but rather, they are provided with priority service, as well as a prompt supply with their medicines.

*A specialized dental clinic, in the University Dental Hospital, with special dentists who are specializing in this field.

3-Special Representative in the Higher Student Advisory Committee

4-Braille Sense 2 devices are loaned to blind students free of charge.

5-The presence of a Braille printer for words, maps, and images at the Agency's Headquarters.

6-Special Parental Committee: Is a special committee of students with disabilities' parents, that communicates directly, with the general supervisor of the Center for People with Special Needs, in all matters pertaining to their children's education and the need for receiving any support and guidance.

7-Assistive technologies for people with special needs

8-Special Transportation Services: Buses, that are equipped with guides who are experts in the mobility of students with disabilities, and equipped with special elevators, transport people with visual impairments and other motion disabilities within and outside the university campus.

9-Access to sport centers and have opportunities to participate in local championships
